Fresh From the Farm:
Harvest Time at Alden House
Saturday, September 23, 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Colonial housewives spent much of the fall getting ready for winter, from harvesting and preserving produce to cheese and butter making. Explore historic New England foodways in this talk at an authentic 18th-century hearthside as you touch, taste, and try early American cuisine and preservation techniques. In addition, visitors will enjoy a colonial textile demonstration of spinning, weaving, and dyeing wool and linen thread.
Fresh from the Farm is included as part of the Alden House tour and includes small bites of popular colonial dishes and hands-on experiences in spinning. It is supported by the Duxbury Cultural Council, a local agency, which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
For more information, please click here to visit the Alden House online. A National Historic Landmark, Alden House Historic Site explores the legacy of Mayflower Pilgrims John and Priscilla Mullins Alden. Alden House Historic Site is located at 105 Alden Street, Duxbury.
Admission for tours is $8 adults; $5 children and students. AKA members are free.
The 5th Annual Duxbury Oktoberfest, a part of the ‘Duxbury Food & Wine Festival’, will take place at the Tents at Snug Harbor. The Oktoberfest event offers casual appeal under a Bavarian tent where you will enjoy German and craft beers, supported by local distributors including Fall Fest beers and October season beers. German red and white wines will also be offered. The dinner menu will consist of traditional hearty Bavarian fare. Kick back and celebrate the season dancing to lively music! Join in the fun and enter the contests for the Best Dirndl and Lederhosen costume, hefty stein-holding, and yodeling! Based on last year’s reviews, enthusiastic participants will make this an annual event not to be missed.
